RAJAHMUNDRY: The death toll in the Rajahmundry milk adulteration case rose to 11. A 73-year-old woman, S Ramalaxmi, who was undergoing treatment for acute renal failure at Delta Hospital, succumbed on Sunday.Nine others are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals, all undergoing dialysis.

Five of them remain on ventilator support.The milk adulteration occurred on Feb 16 in Chowdeswara Nagar and Swaroopa Nagar in the Lalacheruvu area after residents consumed adulterated milk. One person died on Feb 22, three on Feb 23, one on Feb 24, and one each on March 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8.Among the deceased are six men and three women. Forensic reports from FSL and RFSL confirmed that the victims suffered acute renal failure leading to multi-organ failure after consuming milk contaminated with Ethylene Glycol (EG), a toxic industrial chemical.
